synopsis:

my thoughts:

i’ve seen the half bad trilogy around a lot, so i picked all three books up from the library and read them in less than a week. i have to say that the trilogy wasn’t really what i was expecting, and i didn’t love them. however, they were enjoyable enough, and i didn’t find any aspect that was amazing or terrible.

the characters are likable for the most part, and their personalities are pretty realistic. i enjoyed reading about all the side characters, although they definitely aren’t as complex or developed as the main cast. my favorite character would have to be gabriel!

the romance doesn’t really pick up until book 2, but i really like the way it develops. nathan struggles with his feelings throughout the series, and it’s interesting to follow him as he discovers what he really wants.

the world-building is good, but i would have liked more backstory, especially about the witches’ origin. however, most things are pretty clear, and i rarely found myself confused (which can happen with some fantasy novels). i also liked the conflict between the white and black witches.

for the most part, the plot moves at a good pace. book 2 drags a little and took me longer to finish, but the action definitely picks up in book 3, which has a few plot twists. the ending of the whole series is pretty heart-breaking, but it doesn’t leave any loose ends. finally, the writing style is interesting, but nothing special.

overall, the half bad trilogy is a well-rounded trilogy that will play with your emotions (especially at the end).
