top ten tuesday: books of 2016

hey everyone! it’s been so long since i’ve done a top ten list, but it’s 2017 now, so i thought it’d be appropriate to post my top ten books of 2016. not all of these are published in 2016, but i read them last year! these are in order of date read.

(yes, i realize that there aren’t ten books in the picture.)

1. p.s. i still love you by jenny han

i absolutely LOVE this series. honestly, i think to all the boys i’ve loved before is my all time favorite book, and it’s sequel did not disappoint! this is just the perfect contemporary series. it has lovable characters, cute moments, and feels. i seriously can’t wait for the next (and last?) book in the series, which comes out this year!

2. the book thief by markus zusak

this is the only reread on this list, because usually, you reread books you love (so that would have been pointless). but the first time i read this book, i actually didn’t really enjoy it. i didn’t understand all the hype until i read it again this year, and now, i love it so much. the writing is so beautiful, and i really adore the characters (liesel and rudy are so cute).

3. winter by marissa meyer

the lunar chronicles is definitely one of my favorite series, and winter was the perfect conclusion! i really love the characters, the world-building, the plot, basically everything about these books. i can’t wait to read some of marissa’s other books, but i’m sad that this series is over.

4. me before you by jojo moves

i don’t have a picture of this book because i lent it to my friend, but this book is the first adult book i’ve read that i actually loved. the characters are so unique, and i love their dynamic. but the main reason i love this book is because of the emotion—i cried so much at the end of this book. (a weird thing about me: i love books, movies, etc that make me cry!) i can’t believe i still haven’t read the next book; i really need to do that!

5. the siren by kiera cass

i also don’t have a picture of this book because it was a library book, but i really should buy it. i also loved this book because of the emotion in it, but to be honest, this is probably my least favorite out of my favorites.

6. a court of mist and fury by sarah j. maas

this series, along with throne of glass, is another one of my favorites! sarah’s writing is so beautiful, and i love all of her description. this book is packed with action and romance, which i love in fantasy novels!

7. six of crows by leigh bardugo

six of crows is another action-packed book with amazing characters!  everything about this book is amazing: the characters, the world, the plot, and the writing, and i would definitely recommend. this is easily one of my favorite series!

8. an ember in the ashes by sabaa tahir

when i read this book, i knew it would be one of my favorites this year! i love the premise of this, and the main heroine is such a unique character. the plot is also really interesting, and i love the universe this is set in.

9. crooked kingdom by leigh bardugo

yep, this series is here again! both six of crows and crooked kingdom are seriously amazing, but this is definitely my favorite book i read in the whole year! it has everything good that six of crows has, but better. this is my only 5 star read this year, and i love it so so so much.

10. the midnight star by marie lu

last but not least, this book is another amazing conclusion to a series. i love the ending of the book because it’s realistic and emotional, and it wraps everything up well.

to be honest, this year didn’t have THAT many amazing books, but these were the best of the year. i still definitely think crooked kingdom was my best read of 2016!

thanks for reading! what were your favorites last year?
