Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.
After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger…and the Strigoi are always close by.
Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever…
i actually binge-read the entire vampire academy series in about a week, so i’ve decided to review them all together. this isn’t my first time reading the series, but i loved re-reading one of my favorite series.
first off, the characters. i love rose—although she can be rash, impulsive, and annoying, she’s also such a badass and strong character. i especially love her interactions with other characters, particularly lissa and dimitri. she’s a really fun character to follow through the story, and i can definitely see her change and grow up. by the end of the series, she’s more mature and independent, and she learns things she never knew before. rose’s character development is really amazing, since she’s the main character of the series, but you can follow changes in other characters as well.
the romance also develops really well. it’s not rushed at all, and i love seeing the relationship(s) change and the characters’ feelings deepen. when something finally happens, it’s even better because of the build-up. and because the story is told from rose’s perspective, i can feel how she feels, which makes everything more exciting.
the plot is by far my favorite part of this series. it moves very quickly but isn’t rushed, and every book is packed with action. the books become more intense as the story progresses, which i love. the books are so easy to read, and i finished a lot of them in just one sitting. the excitement makes them really hard to put down, but they’re pretty quick reads. the writing style seems overly simple at first, but it grows on you. after a while, you can tell that the language fits rose perfectly.
overall, vampire academy is an exciting, action-packed series that deals with a few sensitive topics but is definitely worth a read!
have you read this? what did you think?
